Hey You,
Just a few Sunday afternoon thoughts about fear of dreams, new tattoos, and a reminder about my next show:
I think anyone can tell from my small history of live performances (ultimately attributed to wretched stage fright) that I am no Road Warrior; which is a strange thing because:
a) I freakin' LOVE the Open Highway... I've taken 6, count 'em, 6 cross-country trips by car, and
b) I LOVE EVEN MORE that feeling I get once I'm on stage, settle into a song, close my eyes, and completely give way to the moment. It's ridiculous, right? Why torture myself by denying what I love.
So, something just has to give. I've recently been brought to the realization that being so obscure that no one ever hears you is not such a great thing. This little voice inside me keeps calling me back to the stage. I don't wanna stay tucked away in my tiny room with my little guitar any longer. Performing is my life, my craft since the age of 5, and the only thing (thing, not person:-) that has ever brought me pure, pure joy. I Want to SING. Out Loud. Out in the Open. In Front Of You.
And the next few times I'm doing so will be Twice This Week:
Tonight @ Room 5 for a 2 song open mic night performance - a quick 10 minutes beginning at 10PM.
-and-
Friday, Aug 20 @ Room 5 for a Full Set (45mins) starting at 10 PM as well.
Tonight is $5 admission, and you should come early and expect to see many great local artists. Lots of variety.
Friday is $8 admission for the longer set, and again, gets you in for an entire night of great music by many great performers. This place has killer food and drinks so come with friends, have dinner, and drink the best dirty martini you've ever had. I think doors open at 7pm.
I hope you can make it out. If you are not able, or live too far away, you can still help....
I'd love it if you could forward the details of the show to anyone you might know in the Los Angeles area who you think might dig the music... no spam or blasting or whatever they call it. Just a sharing of music from one music lover to the next. It would mean so much to me, and it's honestly the most integral part of keeping folks like me afloat in this crazy business.
The love and support of my fans, whether they are next door or 5,000 miles away is what it's all about.
Thank you for supporting me, and thank you so much for loving this music.
Much Love.
xo,
Hope
p.s. FUN THINGS
I'll be sporting a very special new tattoo at Fridays show, and I want you to guess what it will be....
Post your guesses below (before the show on Friday), and if you guess correctly - let's say, two out of the three answers to the hints below, you'll get a CD and a beer on me!!! ;-) Ok, here goes:
1 & 2: I was given my Native American name in summer camp as a kid. You know, like Tall Bull Running, or Little Black Stream, etc (I went to an amazing Native American focused summer camp where we made moccasins, cooked foods over open fires, swam in a big lake, lived in cabins named after tribes... anyway, my given name was that of a specfic animal, and it ties in to music. I'll get two of these animals, and they'll symbolize two things.... one for music, and one for love (when both are side by side).... confused yet?..... ;-)
3: A piece of Buddhist / Japanese art that symbolizes the transience of life, in honor of my mom who has a birthday tomorrow, but passed away 12 years ago. She was so very beautiful and loved nature, and I've studied Buddhism and we both loved all things Japanese. It's going to be a beautiful reminder of what she means to me still.
Ok, peace my peeps ;-)
