On Wednesday, December 28th I'll be performing my last show of 2011 at LA's Room 5 Lounge. Our set starts at 9pm sharp and our friends Up the Chain from Philadelphia will be opening at 8pm. This is their first show in Los Angeles, so come early and support the boys from Philly.

Tonight, Hope will have a live interactive interview with Music on the Couch host, Vinny Bond Marini. The interview begins at 9:45pm Central (10:45 EST / 7:45 PST).
Music On The Couch streams LIVE on BlogTalk Radio each Monday at 9:00pm Central and is then archived forever at MusicOnTheCouch.com and on their BlogTalk Radio Page. The shows feature interviews with independent artists in the Blues and Rock genres with occasional forays into the worlds of Country, Americana and Roots music. Each show has two artists, giving them 45-50 minutes each to tell their stories and to hear their latest music.

Hope will be smack dab in the middle of the state this Saturday and Sunday for two special free performances at CRU Wine Company in Madera, CA for their "Madera Wine Trail Weekend". Hope will be performing as an acoustic duo from Noon - 4:00pm both days in the winery's Barrel Room. CRU Wine Co is located at 20146 Road 21, Madera, CA 93637.

1. For many artists, they cite a defining moment for themselves when they knew they wanted to be a singer. For many it was the appearance of Elvis on the Ed Sullivan show, to another generation it was the Beatles’ appearance on Sullivan half a decade later. Is there such a defining moment for you?
That moment came at a very young age. Going to church with my mom and hearing those singing voices, that was just it for me. I'd been singing since I could speak, but to realize that people actually got on stage and sang in front of an audience, and that you could MOVE people with that, and at the same time it could make you, the singer, feel as though everything else in the world made sense. Gosh, that was such a revelation.
2. When you’re not creating music what are you listening to? Who are some of your favorites?
3. What would you say is your greatest moment so far as an artist, either on record or live?
4. Do you believe music can change the world or is just something to listen to? How much can music influence current events?
5. How has technology affected the music industry? How has technology affected your career as a musician?

I'm often swept up in an album like an addict might be with a new drug.
I play each track back to back incessantly.... enveloping myself in each note, each lyric, and each section of the winding story that takes me to a place where I feel safe and at home.
Ryan Adams' "Ashes & Fire" has been that album today. I've not finished my second round through yet, but I'm finding this sweet, simple and beautiful album something that has granted me serenity on a day like today.
Getting ready for a tour, or even just a single gig, is a big task for me. No matter how big or small the stage will be, no matter how many dates I play, I tend to build up this irrational fear that has no bearing on the realness of what actually is.
However, when I hear a guy like Ryan Adams make an album like this, I remember that I’m not the only one in the world who has felt the scary stuff. And it reminds me that the truth of the matter is that when I leave on tour this Saturday I’ll be headed towards something beautiful and safe, doing what I was meant to do: singing my song.
That, my friends, is the truth of my happiness, and the realization that the silly fear is slowly beginning to shed its skin.
So just remember when you see me out next week on the East Coast, even if I’m singing a sad song, inside I’m really smiling;-)

I have a couple California shows coming up in the next few days - one in the Central Coast and one here in LA - that I'd love to tell you about.
Laetitia Winery & Vineyard in SLO County is celebrating California Wine Month with Summer Music Sessions this September. I've been asked to perform this Saturday, Sept. 17 from 1pm - 4pm. Music and wine, does it get any better??
On Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9:00pm, I'll be playing at Room 5 Lounge in LA where we'll be playing songs from Introducing Hope Waits as well as a few new ones. Room 5 has a great atmosphere and (a bit of history here) was home to Nat King Cole in the 30's when it was the Swanee Inn. David Carducci (guitar), Jon Spence (bass) and Chris Lovejoy (drums) will join me on stage.
